As you know I have been a fan and customer of HelloFresh for quite some time now, not only because of the delicious meals but also because of the money it saves me. However, last month I saw the offer of 30% off all your boxes in the first month with Gousto so thought I would give it a go.

ordering…

The first step in my Gousto journey was selecting when to receive my first box. The first available date was about a week later. The only available but free delivery window was 8 am – 7 pm.

On to choosing my meals, I had the choice of up to 4 meals a week and for either 2 or 4 people and to have to box delivered weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The more meals you have the cheaper the price per meal is.

My first impression on looking at the menu is the number of choices available. You can either scroll through them all and see what takes your fancy or search via category. You will find a number of Joe Wicks recipes such as his Lean in 15 range, some 10 minute or 20-minute meals, some everyday family favourites, or even some oven-ready meals from Charlie Bigham.

the box…

At the top of the box are the recipe cards for my chosen recipes. You are able to store these in the ring binder that is available for free in the Gousto Market. There is also a chill box with any meat or other foods that need to be kept cool, anything small such as sachets of sauces is packaged per recipe in a small brown bag and then the vegetable or other sides are loose in the rest of the box.

the cooking…

The recipe cards are full of all the information you need. On the front, you will find a beautiful image of the meal, all the nutritional info, how long you can expect the meal prep to take, a summary of the dish, all the ingredients, and a few relevant tips. On the back is the instructional along with plenty of images to help you.

the meals…

I was pleased with the taste of the meals and the portion sizes were great. I ordered my meals for 2 people and that was enough to feed myself and the 3 boys (my boys hardly eat anything). Out of the whole month of having Gousto, I can only remember 1 meal that I wasn’t keen on.

The ingredients were all fresh however you do need to be mindful and forward plan a little about what order you eat the meals in. I wouldn’t leave anything with herbs or salad towards the end of the week as it would be getting pretty limp.  I know this sounds obvious however, the reason I mention it is because with HelloFresh their ingredients are so fresh that they easily last until the end of the week, much more so than Gousto.

conclusion of gousto…

I did enjoy my month of Gousto, the food was fresh, there were plenty of meals to choose from, and the instructions on how to prepare the meals were clear and easy to follow. I love that they have their  “Everyday Favourites” such as Spag Bol and Lasagne as these are the kind of meals my boys will eat without fuss, plus the oven-ready meals are great for those nights you know you are going to be short on time for cooking.

It did disappoint me that the maximum nights you can get the meals for is only 4 as I was used to getting 5 a week from HelloFresh and also that the fridge ingredients don’t last all that long before going limp.
